How do you time contractions?
Time each contraction from the moment it starts until it ends (that is its duration), and measure from the start of one contraction to the start of the next (that is the interval). In the app you tap once when it starts and once when it ends; it calculates both for you.
What is the 5-1-1 rule for contractions?
It is a guideline many providers use: contractions about 5 minutes apart, each lasting about 1 minute, for at least 1 hour. Some providers use 4-1-1 or 3-1-1 instead. Follow the instructions your doctor or midwife gave you.
Is the contraction timer free?
Yes. Timing contractions is free and unlimited, including the last-hour summary and the 5-1-1 card. Premium is optional and adds the Live Activity, pattern alerts, charts, full history, reports and export.
Can I use it in the dark or with one hand?
Yes. The start/stop button is large, and the app has a calm dark mode for nighttime.
Does the app tell me when to go to the hospital?
No. It shows your timing and whether it matches a pattern, but it is not medical advice. Always follow your provider's advice about when to call or go in.
