Click counter
Press the big button, or Space or Enter while it has focus.

Use the counter above: press the big button, or hit Space or Enter while it's focused, to add to the count. Use −1 to fix a slip and Reset (it asks first) to start over. The Step option switches the button to +1, +5 or +10, and −1 can take the number below zero, unlike the app. That's all a click counter does, and for a quick count at your computer it's enough.
A web page is less handy when you want several counts at once, names on them, or stats you can look at later (Insights, a Premium feature). That's where an app fits better.
Click counter, clicker counter, tally counter
These names mostly mean the same thing: press a button, the number goes up by one. "Click counter" and "clicker counter" are what people tend to type into search; "tally counter" is the other common name.
The confusing part is that some results for "click counter" are CPS tests, which measure how fast you click over a few seconds. A click counter doesn't time anything. It tells you how many, not how fast.
When the web counter is enough, and when it isn't
| You want to... | Web counter | Tally Counter app |
|---|---|---|
| Count something once, at your computer | Works well | More than you need |
| Keep the count between sessions | Only if you tick "Remember my count on this device" | Counts are saved on your iPhone |
| Track several things at once | One counter per page | Unlimited counters, each with its own name |
| Count while moving around | Needs a browser tab open | Always on your phone |
| See when you count most | No | Insights (Premium) |
What makes a counter pleasant to use
- A big tap target. You should be able to count without looking.
- An undo. Everyone double-taps eventually.
- A reset that asks first. An accidental reset is worse than an extra tap.
- Names. "Laps" and "Pages" beat "Counter 3" once you have more than one.
- Something you can feel. Haptic feedback tells you a tap registered when your eyes are elsewhere.
Count with the Tally Counter iPhone app
Tally Counter is built around those points. To set up your first counter:
- Open the app. On the Counters screen, tap Create Counter (or New Counter if you already have some).
- Type a name in the field, for example "Push-ups", then tap Create.
- Open the counter and tap the large + to add one. The number updates on a flip-style display and your iPhone gives a haptic tap. A Today badge shows the net change for today (additions minus subtractions), such as "Today +3".
- Tap − to take one off. It stops at zero.
- Tap the reset button when you want to start over. The app asks "Reset this counter to 0?" before doing it.
- To rename a counter, open it and tap Edit. To delete one, swipe it in the list.
Counting is free and the number of counters is unlimited. You can turn haptics off in Settings. Premium adds Insights for each counter: total actions, daily average and peak hour, an hour-by-hour chart, and a recent activity log grouped by day.
The app has no account, and your counters are stored on your iPhone rather than synced between devices. It doesn't count for you either. There's no camera or sensor, so you press the button each time.
Things people count
Reps, laps, visitors, pages read, rows of knitting, items during an inventory check. With named counters you can keep each of those in the same list instead of in your head.
Which one to use
For a one-off count at your desk, the counter at the top of this page is enough. If you'll come back to the number, or you're counting more than one thing, Tally Counter on iPhone keeps them organized.
FAQ
- What is a click counter?
- A click counter, also called a clicker counter or tally counter, adds one to a number each time you press a button. This page has one you can use in the browser, and Tally Counter is an iPhone app that does the same thing.
- Is there a click counter app for iPhone?
- Yes. [Tally Counter for iPhone](/tally-counter) has a large + button, haptic feedback and unlimited named counters. Counting is free; Premium adds Insights.
- How do I count clicks per second?
- A clicks-per-second (CPS) test is a different tool: you click as fast as you can for a few seconds, and the page divides your clicks by the time. A click counter only keeps a running total. It doesn't time you or measure speed.
- Can I use a click counter to count people?
- Yes. Press the button as each person comes in. In Tally Counter you can name a counter 'Visitors' and use − to fix a mistaken tap.
- Does the counter keep my number if I close the page?
- The counter on this page only remembers your count if you tick 'Remember my count on this device'. In the Tally Counter app, counts are saved on your iPhone.
